Football Racism: Racism is one of the biggest problems in world football today. Players are subjected to taunts and remarks from the fans during the matches. To deal with racism issues, Brazil Football Federation (CBF) has introduced a major rulemaking them the first federation to implement it. In the fight against racism and discrimination in the country’s stadiums, CBF has said that it will sanction teams whose employees or fans commit acts of racism with the loss of points. CBF released a statement that said: “The fight against racism is in a hurry. Measures have been discussed for centuries and have never been put into practice… We decided to go further with punishments and we can even take away points from a club in one of our competitions. “It is considered extremely serious the discriminatory offense practiced by managers, representatives and professionals of clubs, athletes, coaches, members of the Technical Committee, fans and arbitration teams in competitions coordinated by the CBF.”

CBF to have crackdown on racism
Earlier the CBF had sent a letter to FIFA calling for a crackdown on racism in the sport. The letter was sent following a series of incidents that took place with Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. The CBF in the letter had urged for stronger action to fight racism and raise awareness about the problem.
CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues while speaking at the opening of a FIFA seminar said, “It’s essential to wage an absolutely firm fight against racism. Cases like the recent ones involving Vinicius Junior and so many other athletes are unacceptable. It’s reached a point that goes beyond attacking the victims’ dignity to threaten their safety.”
Vinícius, who is Black, has been subjected to racist taunts more than once in Spain. Brazil forward has complained on social media about being targeted by racists since he came to play in Europe. The players’ dummy was hanged from a highway bridge before Real Madrid’s match against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey recently.
