Manchester United Transfer: Manchester United has been trying to sign Frenkie de Jong for their team for a long time. However, since the Barcelona player is keen on staying at his club, Manchester United has started looking for some other options. One of those options is Mateo Kovacic. Even though Chelsea has not yet shown interest in selling the player, Liverpool and Manchester City have also joined Manchester United in the race to sign the player. Manchester United has been looking to upgrade their midfield similar to Liverpool and Manchester City. However, they have been trying to bring on Frenkie de Jong for a few transfer windows now. Barcelona has been in trouble for quite some time now so it could have been expected that De Jong would leave the club but she has expressed on multiple occasions that he wants to stay at Barcelona.
As a second option for their midfield Man United has decided to go for Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic. Kovacic is 29 years old and he is still in good form. His contract ends in 2024 and even though Chelsea has been trying to extend the player’s contract, as per reports, his representatives are still considering other options as well.
Chelsea’s ownership has changed in the past year and since then they went on a shopping spree. Chelsea now has a bloated team of 31 players and it’s easy to presume that they will be offloading some players now. As there have been some organisational changes to the club, the management has started adopting some new practices.

One of these new practices is that they don’t want any of their players to go on a free transfer. This can indicate that when a player is near the end of their contract and still has not extended with Chelsea, then if there are some good offers from other clubs, Chelsea will agree to sell that player away.
Chelsea has also started to sign their players on longer deals. They have recently signed Reece James on a six-year deal till 2028. Kovacic has not yet signed any such contract with Chelsea. Rival clubs that have been trying to sign Kovacic will take these policies as a positive sign that if they present a good enough deal then Chelsea might want to sell them the player.
