Current Manchester United owners, Glazer Family in November 2022 announced that the club is for sale after several years of protests and facing backlashes from the fans. As of now, there are two groups who are considered the front runners of this takeover: INEOS Group of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari investor Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani.
Both the groups visited Old Trafford this week and Sir Jim Ratcliffe had a chat with manager Erik Ten Hag. The majority of the fans are aligned towards Sir Jim Ratcliffe becoming the new owner, as they don’t want to join the list of clubs owned by Gulf countries’ owners like Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, and Newcastle United.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid is to remove Glazers from the majority stakeholders and the club will remain in debt. Ratcliffe visited Old Trafford along with British Cycling supremo Sir Dave Brailsford, fellow Ineos owners Andy Currie and John Reece and Ineos chair and chief executive Rob Nevin and Jean Claude Blanc.

In the case of Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, he wants to buy the club 100%, which will make United debt free, and is even willing to overpay for it.
The eventual winner of this bidding war will be decided after the last bid, which will take place around Easter. The Qatari owners are the favorites to take over the club as they are willing to overpay it and if they do so, Ratcliffe and co. might walk off from the deal.
