Thanks to a brilliant late goal from Brazilian superstar Romarinho, Nuno Santo’s hosts have surpassed Al Nassr and now lead the table by one point. Both teams had trouble moving the ball in the first half, with Santo and Rudi Garcia taking a cautious approach. After the break, Al Ittihad posed the bigger threat.
Al Nassr squandered the opportunity to jump five points ahead in the race for the championship after Romarinho easily put them in front with 10 minutes remaining. Ronaldo was then stopped by Marcelo Grohe in stoppage time.
The King Cup of Champions matchup between Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr and Abha will take place on Tuesday, March 14. Four days later, on Saturday, March 18, the two teams will square off when they play in a league match.
