GTA 5 has been a huge success since its release 8 years ago. Rockstar Games is doing a great job to push out new updates for GTA Online and GTA 5 which maintain the dynamics of the open-world title and offer players with lots of new features. It’s still impressive to see how a 2013 game has managed to top the charts of Twitch almost 8 years later. Twitch stats are always fun to watch and give us insight about what games viewers were most engaged with. This year StreamElement’s State of the Stream 2021 and Rainmaker.gg revealed that GTA 5 has been the most-watched game this year on Twitch.
Previously, fans were more engaged on games like League of Legends and Fortnite. League of Legends has been the most-watched game on Twitch for many years and only Fortnite had managed to beat them back in 2018. This year, players returned back to basics and gave rise to the unlikely winner GTA 5. League of Legends have come really close to GTA 5 in terms of view count. Other worthy mentions for this year’s most-watched games are CS:GO, Call of Duty: Warzone, Dota 2, Apex Legends, Valorant, Minecraft and more. One of the main reasons for players to come back to GTA 5 is to do with roleplaying. Everybody loves roleplaying and GTA let players do exactly that right from 2013. Some major changes in the NoPixel server have led many gamers to try out GTA 5 again.
The increasing number of realistic and creative mods have enhanced the dynamics of the game by significant margin. With the latest update by Rockstar Games known as GTA Online: The Contract, the game is expected to be topping the charts for quite some time. The overall viewers have also increased drastically on Twitch as compared to last year. The total watch time clocked at 2.1 billion hours this year compared to last year’s 764 million. This stats also denotes the increasing popularity of gaming/eSports in the world and also the growth rate of Twitch as a streaming service.
