The letter, signed by founders of Outlier Games, Story Pix, Lucid Labs, Roach Interactive, Godspeed Games, Uniplay Digital, and four other companies, mentions India has been “lagging considerably in creating high skilled entrepreneurs” and global gaming giants have opted for a “long-term vision” on fostering the local ecosystem.
“While capital and infrastructure are critical to the survival and development of the industry, the leading global video gaming companies with their experience and next-generation technology are needed for establishing a robust gaming eco-system in India. Battlegrounds Mobile India – BGMI ban Update
The government of India banned South Korean giant Krafton’s Battlegrounds Mobile India late last month. Before the ban, the popular title had over 100 million registered users in the country. Reuters reported that the GOI blocked the title under section 69A of the local IT law over concerns that it was sharing data with China.
Meanwhile, Krafton also issued statements on the ban looking for ways to bring back the game. However, with the China links involved with BGMI and its servers, it is most likely the game will not return to India.
