Eng Playing XI: The decision to rest James Anderson and Stuart Broad proved to be a major setback for Joe Root & Co in the opening Test. The duo is likely to return in the mix for the upcoming pin-ball Test at Adelaide for the second Ashes Test. England will aim for a bounce-back after 0-1 drubbing in the five-match series. The experience of 1156 wickets might just be what England needs for the upcoming fixture. Follow Ashes 2021 LIVE updates on InsideSport.IN

Stuart Broad has said that there is no time for England to feel sorry and need to focus on Adelaide Test.

“We board the flight to Adelaide on Monday and our training from Tuesday has to be focused on how to win a pink ball Test. Batting and bowling styles for that will be a contrast to those on display at the Gabba. There is no time to feel sorry for ourselves, dwell on not batting, bowling, or catching very well. We know that’s the case,” Stuart Broad told DailyMail.

“We must pretend it’s 0-0 in a four-match series and go again. There will also be moments when you need to sit in. David Warner got a triple hundred in a pink-ball game at Adelaide Oval, so we can’t just think it’s going to nip around. We have to adjust quicker than Australia with whatever is presented to us,” he added.

Broad even said that he tried to get a step by practising with the pink ball.

“Personally, I have tried to get a step ahead these past few days. When I was told I wasn’t playing, it was straight to the nets, pink ball in hand and I have been bowling in the nets with Jimmy and Craig Overton all week,” he concluded.

While James Anderson was ruled out of the first Test, Stuart Broad was named in the 12-member squad before being left out of the playing XI.

“I love Ashes cricket, love bowling at the Gabba and feel like I could’ve had a positive influence on a pitch like that. I and Jimmy tried to ensure we were as fit as could be in the current Covid climate, ready to go and available for all five Tests in Australia,” he further stressed at his exclusion from the playing XI at Gabba, Brisbane.

Will England play spin at Adelaide after Jack Leach’s blunder at the Gabba?

  • The biggest bowling concern for Joe Root in the opening Test was the spin bowling.
  • Australia hammered Jack Leach for 102 runs in 13 overs.
  • Last time England had played Moeen Ali as a spinner in Adelaide Test and he failed to take even a single wicket in both the innings of the Test match. England had lost the match by 120 runs in 2017.
  • Earlier in 2013, Monty Panesar could take just a couple of wickets as Australia beat England by 218 runs.

Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie feels that even Dom Bess could bear the same treatment if picked in England playing XI.

“The biggest bowling concern for Joe Root is not in the seam department. It’s what they’re going to do with regards to spin. You didn’t have to be Einstein to see that Jack Leach would be lined up to be pummeled. If Dom Bess comes in, he can expect the same treatment,” Gillespie said as quoted by DailyMail.

Will Jonny Bairstow replace Rory Burns in Adelaide Test?

  • Joe Root & Co would not look to press the panic button straight after the first but there is a possibility that England might take a big call for Rory Burns.
  • The England opener returned with scores of 0 & 13.
  • As a result, Jonny Bairstow could be used as an opener in the pink-ball Test.
  • Meanwhile, Ollie Pope’s place in the playing XI is also questionable after scores of just 35 & 4.
