Al-Nassr has sold all 28,000 seats and it was going to be a packed house for tonight’s game. But, Ronaldo’s ban now means that he will miss 2 games and then will make his debut against Ettifaq on the 21st of January. Ronaldo was hit with a £50,000 fine and was suspended for two games by the English FA in November.

The ban was due to his being guilty of improper and violent conduct after Manchester United’s game against Everton last season. Ronaldo smashed a fan’s phone on the way back to the tunnel after the Red Devils lost their game against Everton. He slapped the hand of Jacob Harding as he stormed down the tunnel after their loss.

The independent FA panel, chaired by Christopher Quinlan KC found Ronaldo guilty of ‘a deliberate and forceful slap down’ which was ‘a petulant act.’ Ronaldo’s suggestion was that the crowd was aggressive and the atmosphere was hostile. While walking back, he spotted a hand pointing toward his injured leg and also saw that the hand was holding an object. His response to the same was to slap the hand/object away, without knowing what it was.

The panel rejected Ronaldo’s claim and said that the spectator did not attempt to harm or pose a threat to Ronaldo and the striker acted out of frustration. Even though Ronaldo is out of England, the ban still upholds due to FIFA regulations, which state that ban’s imposed by a different federation carry over, even if you play in a different league, or under a different federation. Al-Nassr and their fans will have to wait some more to see their marque signing in action.
