If you thought that PBKS were poor in their batting effort against KKR on Tuesday, the Ajinkya Rahane-led team superseded that too. Chasing a modest 111, the visitors were bundled out for an embarrassing 95, eventually losing the clash by 16 runs. The heroes for Shreyas Iyer’s team were Yuzvendra Chahal, who returned with figures of 4/28, and then Marco Jansen, who delivered a 3/17 effort.
PBKS Defend Lowest Total in IPL History
Enroute victory, there were a bundle of records made. For starters, not only PBKS now have the lowest defended total under their name in the IPL, they also hold the record for the highest chase in T20s — 262/2 against the same opposition in 2024. But we must talk about Yuzi before going any further.
The wily spinner was enduring a poor IPL 2025 until the PBKS vs KKR match, where five matches before this had fetched him only two wickets. In fact, in the last match against SRH, he had returned with poor figures of 1/56 in 4 overs. Now in 6 games, he has as many wickets, at an improved strike-rate of 19.00.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s Superior Record vs KKR
To go with that, he has the most number of four-wicket hauls in IPL — 8, along with Sunil Narine. Out of the current roster, no one come close to him, with Kagiso Rabada in next with 6. Yuzvendra Chahal loves bowling against the Purple Team, and has the most four-wicket hauls against any team in IPL — three now. He also now has the most wickets against KKR- 33 in all, surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s tally of 32.
One must also talk about the lowest scores defended in the IPL. For the last 4-5 years, it was a run-fest where no team could even dare to defend such a low total — but then PBKS has shown the way to other teams. Before this, the lowest total defended was 116 by CSK in 2009, and then 118 by SRH in 2018.
