“You’ve earned this”: Virat Kohli sends special message to Rajat Patidar on becoming RCB captain

Rajat Patidar takes over as RCB captain for IPL 2025, with Virat Kohli urging fans to support him and embrace the transition.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has chosen Rajat Patidar from Madhya Pradesh as the team’s captain for the IPL 2025 season, announced on Thursday. Patidar is taking over from Faf du Plessis, who was the captain for three seasons from 2022 to 2024. Under Faf’s leadership, the team reached the IPL Playoffs twice. The 31-year-old batsman from Indore made a surprising comeback to the IPL in the middle of the 2022 season. He joined RCB as a replacement for Luvnith Sisodia after playing four matches for the team in 2021 but was not kept on after that year. Now he’s leading the side. Virat Kohli has congratulated him.

Virat Kohli’s request to RCB fans

Fans must be disheartened who wanted to see Virat Kohli again leading the team, but now Rajat Patidar got the captaincy. To avoid, the kind of backlash Hardik Pandya has faced in Wankhede Stadium for leading Mumbai Indians over Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli makes a request to the fans to show support to Paridar. “I would request all the fans to show him absolute support, stand right behind him, and know that he always gives his best for the team and the franchise. Let’s all come together and support, regardless of what happens or who does what. The most important thing is the team and the franchise. We all have the responsibility to work towards the growth of this incredible team and franchise. Sending my best wishes to him and the fans. Lots of love, and looking forward to seeing you soon before the start of the season.” he concluded.
