Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has claimed that upcoming matches might witness Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, known for their batting prowess, stepping onto the bowling crease as well. Tilak Varma has been exceptional with the bat during the T20I series against West Indies. With a notable tally of 139 runs from three innings, Tilak Varma’s batting average rests at an impressive 69.50, complemented by a striking strike rate of 139.00. A stand-out achievement was his debut T20I half-century in the second match of the series. In spite of India’s struggle for victories, Tilak Varma’s consistency and poise have garnered admiration from fans and pundits alike.

On the flip side, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s T20I debut against West Indies was a lackluster affair, with the youngster falling for a mere single run during the third match of the five-game series at Guyana’s Providence Stadium. Yet, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s potential had earlier dazzled in IPL 2023, amassing an impressive 625 runs across 14 matches, boasting a remarkable strike rate of 163.6 and an average of 48.07. While their batting prowess has taken the spotlight, their bowling capabilities are relatively unexplored. Tilak Varma’s track record includes three wickets from nine first-class games and eight wickets from 25 List A encounters. Similarly, Jaiswal, though wicketless in the first-class arena, has secured seven wickets from 32 List A outings.
“When you have someone who can chip in, it is nice. I have seen Tilak and Yashasvi bowl since U19 days. They are capable of being good bowlers. They can work on it at this level. When you got options like these, it is nice to have them. We will see them bowl soon hopefully, we are working on it. It will take time. Soon, we will see them bowling an over at least,” said Mhambrey.
Despite the limited bowling accomplishments, Indian bowling coach Mhambrey remains optimistic about their latent potential on the bowling front. Speaking during a press conference ahead of the fourth T20I between India and West Indies in Florida, Mhambrey hinted at the unconventional move. He suggested that upcoming matches might witness both Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal taking charge of the ball, even if it’s just for a solitary over.
