Wrong representation! Why ICC T20 World Cup won’t witness runs galore like IPL 2024?

Galore of scores in IPL 2024, but it is not the correct representation of T20 Leagues ahead of ICC T20 World Cup

Runs, runs, and more runs! This sums up IPL 2024 in a nutshell ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. If fans will expect a similar scenario in the T20 World Cup, they are in for a huge shock. This is mainly because the pitches in the USA and West Indies will be nothing like those of IPL. This essentially proves why IPL 2024 is not a proper representation of T20 leagues before the ICC event.

21 games out of 56 in IPL 2024 have seen more than 200+ runs. And 4 matches have seen teams managing to score 199 runs in the tournament. Now this is not a correct representation of how runs would be scored in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Slow Pitches in USA and West Indies

Pitches in the USA and West Indies will be on the slower side. This essentially means it will favour the spinners more than the batters. This also essentially means that there won’t be excessive and mammoth scores in the tournament. While pitches in IPL 2024 have been directly favouring the batters, that won’t be the case in the USA.

Spinners and slow bowlers will get more grip and assistance from the pitch making it harder for batters to play big hits and score runs. 170+ scores can be expected. While every team constantly crossing the 200+ run mark without breaking a sweat is highly unlikely.

Consider this, Out of the top 10 highest innings score by a team in the history of IPL has come in IPL 2024. Sunrisers Hyderabad tops the charts with their highest-ever score of 287 against RCB. In IPL 2024, SRH has crossed the 250 mark thrice, 287, 277 and 266 respectively. Kolkata Knight Riders are third on the list with a massive score of 272 runs against DC.
