The MI team led by Harmanpreet Kaur has been brilliant in WPL 2025, and are in final already. On Saturday, they will be up against three-time finalists DC, for their second title. But the way MI performed on the day of the eliminator on Thursday, would instill a sense of fear in Meg Lanning’s team.
Harmanpreet Kaur Highlights Game-Changer for MI
Harman slammed 12-ball 36, while Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt went on to score 77 each. The Englishwoman became the first in the history of WPL to cross the 500-run barrier, while Harman struck at 300. Opening on MIs batting performance and her strike rate, MI skipper said, “It’s only about backing yourself.
“The team has a very long batting line-up,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying by The Hindu. “We have tried to add a few young Indian batters who can bat in the death overs. So, that gave us confidence that I don’t need to wait for a bit of time and rotate strike and play the big shots only when the time is right. There’s support mentally now, especially given the way Amanjot (Kaur) is batting. That has given me the leverage to go and play free cricket.”
Meg Lanning Wants 1st WPL Title for DC
Meanwhile, there is a lot on the line for DC, who play well each season, but just can’t seem to lift the trophy. “The final has obviously a lot more on the line than a league game,” the 32-year-old skipper said. “But it’s also an exciting opportunity.
“Throughout the season, we have had different players step up at different times. That gives us a lot of confidence. It’s really irrelevant what has happened in the past, even what has happened in the league games this year. It’s about performing Saturday night.”
