The first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) mini-auction is over. All five teams have their squads ready. While all eyes were on Chamari Atthapatthu and Annebl Sutherland, it’s uncapped Kashvee Gautam and Vrinda Dinesh who stole the headlines. Gujarat Giants went all in to pay Rs 2 Cr for Gautam while UP Warriorz paid Rs 1.3 Cr for Vrinda. Annabel Sutherland, WBBL’s top performer was the highest pick among overseas players. Delhi Capitals paid Rs 2 Cr for the Australian.
However, there were surprises as well. The likes of Deandra Dottin and Chamari Atthapatthu went unsold along with Kim Garth. Veda Krishnamurthy who did not find a place last time finally found a home in WPL 2024 with Gujarat Giants picking her up for Rs 30 Lakh.
In all, franchises spent Rs 12.75 Cr on 30 players including nine overseas stars.
