WPL 2023: RCB WPL Coaches: Royal Challengers Bangalore have finally announced their coaching staff two days after the WPL Auction. NewZealand women’s team coach Ben Sawyer will be the team’s head coach while former India star Vanitha VR will be their scout and fielding coach. Popular Karnataka coach RX Murali has been roped in as the team’s batting coach. Murali is the coach of Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey and has also worked closely with Mithali Raj in the past. Vanitha was at the WPL Auction as she oversaw scouting for the team ahead of the inaugural auction. She prepared a shortlist of 100 players for the auction.
“Appointing former India cricketer Vanitha VR as our scout was a key in that process. She comes with huge experience and knowledge of the domestic circuit as well as the contemporary cricketers from world over. Her inputs and our “RCB Hinterland” scouting process together ensured we started our evaluation process way ahead of time,” Prathmesh Mishra, Chairman, RCB told IANS.
RCB made a splash at the WPL Auction. With players like Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry and Sophie Devine, RCB made a great start. The team ended up with some of the popular names including England women captain Heather Knight, Australian pacer Megan Schutt, South African captain Dane van Niekerk. RCB also picked up two emerging Indian talents like Richa Ghosh and Renuka Thakur.
