Gujarat Giants on Saturday confirmed Mithali Raj’s appointment as the team mentor for the upcoming WPL season. As a mentor and advisor, Mithali will also promote women’s cricket and help develop the sport at the grassroots level in Gujarat.
Earlier, a News18 report stated that Mithali had intentions of playing the inaugural season. Raj was keen to represent Mumbai but a deal never materialised. In the meantime, Gujarat Giants pounced and offered a lucrative team mentor role. Mithali pounced on the opportunity and will serve as a mentor and advisor.

One of the greatest female cricketers of all time, Mithali Raj opened her ODI career with a century on debut. Mithali is the highest run-scorer in women’s ODIs and has scored 17 half-centuries in her T20Is. The highly acclaimed cricketer captained India in the 2017 Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup. She was also part of the Indian team that made it to the semi-finals of the 2018 ICC Women’s World T20.
Mithali announced her retirement in 2022 and opted out of the latest Women’s T20 Challenge. Her long-time teammate Jhulan Goswami is also set to join coaching. She has been offered a role with the Delhi team on the cards. Both Indian stars are expected to be present at the auction on February 11.
