The BCCI secretary Jay Shah has requested all 10 state associations to give up their turn to host India matches after being awarded games during the World Cup 2023. The Indian Cricket Board will host games across 12 venues, with several cricketing centres like Mohali, Nagpore and Indore missing out. However, in a sort of compensation, the missed out stadiums will have first preference for upcoming India vs Australia and other bilateral series.

As per The Times of India, BCCI made the request on June 26, a day before the World Cup 2023 schedule was announced. Shah then mentioned that his proposal was agreed upon “unanimously” by all the concerned state units.

  • IND vs NZ: Sun 22 October at 2 PM, HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala
  • IND vs ENG: Sun 29 October at 2 PM, Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow
  • IND vs Q2: Thu 02 November at 2 PM, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
  • IND vs SA: Sun 05 November, Eden Gardens, Kolkata
  • IND vs Q1: Sat 11 November, M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

Several state units expressed disappointment in missing out on World Cup games. Mohali, which hosted the semis in 1996 and 2011 was the most significant omission. Nagpur, Rajkot, Indore, Ranchi Vizag, Raipur and Cuttack were all excluded from the list of venues staging the 2023 World Cup matches. However, all these venues could host more games during the upcoming Indian cricket season.

After the Asia Cup 2023, India will host Australia in a three-match series. The India vs Afghanistan series which was postponed, could also be squeezed in before the World Cup 2023. After the World Cup, India could once again play Australia in a 5-match T20I series. Bangladesh, New Zealand and England are also set to tour India for Tests in the coming World Test Championship cycle.
