The oldest rivalry in cricket will return to Birmingham and see England Women, fresh of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, will face the Baggy Greens in an Ashes IT20 in a prime summer slot.

The fixture follows a rich history of Edgbaston hosting England Women and 2023 will mark 50 years since the venue hosted the inaugural Women’s World Cup in 1973.

In total, Edgbaston has played host to England Women for four Tests, one ODI and six IT20s, with five of those coming in the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Major Match dates and ticket information for 2023 will be announced from 10am on Wednesday 21 September. The ticket Ballot – the best way to get tickets – will open at this point.

Stuart Cain, Chief Executive said: “Following a hugely successful Women’s T20 competition at the Commonwealth Games, which saw over 125,000 people visit Edgbaston, we’re hugely excited to be hosting England Women as part of a historic Ashes summer.

“With the Commonwealth Games and the recent Lionesses Euro football success, there is real momentum behind women’s sport in the UK and we believe there’s even more we can do.

“Edgbaston is synonymous with, not just a great atmosphere, but hosting some of the great matches and I really hope people of the West Midlands will come out and support.”

England are currently ranked second behind Australia in the ICC Women’s IT20 rankings, as the top two sides go head-to-head as part of a multi-format Ashes series in 2023.

Amy Jones, England and Warwickshire wicket-keeper said: “I’m incredibly excited for the Women’s Ashes and I the opportunity to play at my home ground. The support England received during the Commonwealth Games was one of the best atmosphere we’ve ever experienced and I know this fixture will be even better.

“Whenever England plays Australia it feels like the whole cricketing world watches, so we’ll be doing everything we can to entertain in front of a big crowd at Edgbaston.”
