Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were both architects of England’s destruction. The duo went on to scalp 3 wickets apiece to go past the record of Harbhajan-Kumble in Test cricket. Jadeja further claimed that he hopes Ashwin reach his 500 Test wicket tally in this IND vs ENG 1st Test match.
After his 3 wicket haul, Ashwin is now on 493 wickets. If he has to reach the 500 wicket mark, then the veteran spinner will have to scalp 7 wickets in the next innings. Currently, Ashwin is second on the list of most Test wickets for India, Anil Kumble tops the charts for India with 619 Test wickets.
“It will be a big achievement if Ashwin completes 500 Test wickets and I hope he gets it in this match. I am left with 25 wickets for 300 and it might take the whole series, but I wish Ashwin completes his 500 in this game itself and continues taking wickets for India,” Jadeja said during an interaction with JioCinema.
The duo went on to surpass the previous record of 501 combines Test wickets set by Kumble and Harbhajan. On the other hand, Jadeja himself is chasing a milestone. The all-rounder is eyeing to reach his 300 Test wicket mark. Since he is 25 wickets shy of the record, he believes that it will take him the entire IND vs ENG Test series.
“I really enjoy bowling with Ashwin, it is really helpful with two spinners bowling in tandem. We share a lot of messages around field setting, line and length and we are happy to contribute to India’s win. We really enjoy the competition,” added Jadeja.
