Will Virat Kohli play IPL 2024? This is the most pertinent question of the hour. Former India star Sunil Gavaskar has taken a cheeky dig about Kohli’s participation in IPL 2024 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Virat Kohli opted out of IND vs ENG Test series owing to the birth of his second child.
It is expected that Kohli will return to action for IPL 2024. RCB is slated to take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of the tournament on 22nd March. With IND vs ENG 5th Test ending just a week before the start of the T20 tournament, questions have been raised on Kohli’s participation.
“Kya woh khelenge… kuchh reason ke liye khel nahin rahe hain, shaayad ho sakta hai ke IPL ke liye bhi na khele (Will he play… He is not playing because of some reason, perhaps he may not play in IPL as well,” Sunil Gavaskar answered when he was asked whether Kohli will play in IPL 2024.
Gavaskar raised quite a few doubts when he answered on the matter. Kohli initially opted out of the first 2 IND vs ENG Test matches citing personal reasons. The BCCI later on clarified that Kohli won’t play any match in the series. Later on, last week Kohli announced the birth of his child in London.
Kohli is currently in London where he shared a congratulatory message to Team India after clinching the IND vs ENG Test series. Team India sans Kohli managed to beat England at home. Coming to IPL, with T20 World Cup on the horizon, it is highly unlikely that Kohli will miss the mega tournament.
