Team India will be eyeing their 7th win in a row when they face Sri Lanka in IND vs SL Cricket World Cup game at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday. Ahead of the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gave a big update on whether Team India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will get a chance in the game or not.
“All sorts of combination is possible. You can still play with three spinners and two seamers if need be”, Rohit Sharma said in the pre-match conference.
Rohit was asked about whether Hardik Pandya is needed in Playing XI to play three spinners in the game. To which the Indian captain said that he is keeping his options open and is not ruling out playing three spinners in IND vs SL.
“In this World Cup, you’ve seen spinners actually are the ones who are stopping that run flow in the middle overs. I am keeping my options open whether we have Hardik or not at this point in time to play three spinners or not”, Rohit said.
When asked whether the team is considering resting few players since the Team has almost reached the semi-finals of the World Cup, Rohit said, “I think they are in great rhythm at this point in time. They don’t want to rest. Body is fine. And this is the feedback that I’ve gotten from all the bowlers. So, they are happy to play games.”
The 36-year-old also gave an update on Hardik Pandya’s recovery and confirmed that the Indian all-rounder is not available for Thursday’s game.
“Right now, he is not available for tomorrow’s match. But it is an injury that we have to see every day how much percent he has improved. We are watching the situation daily. So, hopefully, we’ll get a chance to see him as soon as possible. That’s all I can say for now”, Rohit said.
The Men in Blue are currently on top of the table with 6 wins in 6 games and a win in IND vs SL will make them the first team to qualify for the final four in the tournament.
