Will the LSG vs RCB IPL 2025 match happen on May 9?

Unlike previous reports, the BCCI has suspended the tournament for just a week.

The Indian Premier League 2025 has hit an unexpected and unprecedented roadblock. What began as an isolated security incident in Dharamsala has now spiralled into a full-blown disruption of the tournament. The match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abruptly stopped on Thursday evening after just 10.1 overs due to a security-triggered blackout linked to aerial threats across the Indo-Pak border. With fans evacuated and players whisked away to safety, the seriousness of the situation became instantly clear.

The IPL season hung in the balance after the recent incident had thrown everything into doubt. The BCCI, right after the abrupt end to the PBKS vs DC match, held a crisis meeting to determine whether the tournament could continue. The result of the PBKS vs DC encounter is still not decided either, with both teams not given any points as of yet.

Will LSG vs RCB IPL 2025 match happen tonight?

This brings us to today’s match—Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scheduled at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Friday’s scheduled clash in Lucknow has also been officially called off. The BCCI, after an emergency meeting, has decided to suspend the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. However, unlike previous reports, the BCCI has suspended the tournament for just a week.

Earlier in the day, the match was still on track, with heightened security at the Ekana Stadium and both teams stationed in the city. BCCI chairman Arun Dhumal had confirmed that the game was “on as of now,” but left room for a late change depending on evolving circumstances.

That change has now arrived. With the national security situation still tense, the board has opted to pause the tournament entirely for a week. There is no official word yet on revised fixtures or venues. Both teams are currently stationed in Lucknow, and security has been massively heightened in the city. For now, cricket takes a back seat as the league and the country focus on far more pressing matters.
