Will IPL 2025 resume after 1 week? BCCI VP says, “Indian government’s views will be asked”

BCCI has halted the IPL 2025 season for at least 1 week following tensions between India and Pakistan.

Less than an hour ago, the Indian Premier League (IPL) announced that the 2025 edition of the tournament has been suspended for 1 week. The decision comes in light of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Last night, the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off due to safety concerns, and now, right so, the IPL has been halted.

BCCI on IPL 2025 resumption

The question is, will the IPL 2025 season resume? Given the current state in India, it won’t be the right time for the tournament to continue unless the conflict is resolved. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hopes that the event will restart in a week’s time, but they can’t decide that.

The BCCI vice president, Rajeev Shukla, has stated that the situation will be analysed and only after getting the Indian government’s approval will the schedule of the remaining season of the IPL 2025 be announced.

“The BCCI has decided to suspend the IPL for a week with immediate effect. After a week, the situation will be aanalysed, and the government and stakeholders’ views will be asked, following which the new schedule will be announced,” Shukla told PTI.

Statement on IPL 2025 being suspended

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.

The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans ; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders.”
