Abhishek & Head hunting 300 not helping SRH, should learn from GT’s Gill & Sudharsan

Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have collectively failed to fire in IPL 2025

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have hardly managed to replicate their performances from 2024 in the ongoing IPL season. The SRH openers, once considered as the most destructive duo, have absolutely failed to fire, leaving SRH in a lurch in the ongoing season. SRH are now all but out of the tournament, having to win 5 out 5 remaining games to make it to the playoffs and yet not guaranteed a spot.

What Travishek can do different

So far, the highest partnership registered by the duo of Head-Sharma is 171 runs from 75 deliveries in the game against PBKS in IPL 2025. After their stellar run in 2024, the duo were hyped to help SRH cross the 300-mark easily in IPL 2025. However, that hasn’t happened yet.

So far, apart from the 171-run stand, the duo have a poor record in terms of partnership. Their stands so far include 0, 2, 59, 171, 9. 4, 11, 15 and 45. Their fearless brand of cricket, which worked excellently in 2024, has simply refused to play off this season.

What the duo could do differently is follow the footsteps of GT’s Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. They sure haven’t targeted the 300-run mark but have displayed stellar consistency so far in IPL 2025.

While all the other teams tend to go helter-skelter with the ball and sometimes, end up without desirable total. However, GT have a set plan in place where the two openers, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, stitch a stable partnership and eye not to give away wickets in the powerplay.

Abhishek was consistent over the last three seasons, amassing 426, 226 and 484 runs in IPL 2022, 2023 and 2024 respectively. With a strike rate of 155.84, the explosive opener displayed his ability to strike maximums at will and deal with both spin and face efficiently.

With just one stellar season in 2024, Head managed to turn heads with his vicisous hitting. Head went on to amass 567 runs in IPL 2024, including a century and four half-centuries and boasted of a staggering strike rate of 191.55.
