Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was surprised that stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t asked about Rohit Sharma’s exclusion from the side for IND vs AUS 5th Test. After failing to fire in the last three Tests, the Hitman has opted to “rest” himself for the match at the SCG, paving way for Shubman Gill’s return to the side. Manjrekar was amused with the fact that there no questions asked about Rohit at the toss while also lamenting the fact that he was dropped for the crucial game.
Manjrekar questions Rohit Sharma’s absence
Speaking on commentary after the toss, Manjrekar raised a pertinent point, asking why Ravi Shastri did not ask Bumrah about Rohit Sharma while the latter announced the playing XI. He further pointed out that the Hitman’s absence will get the Indian fans buzzing and stated that he failed to understand the “cloak and dagger” game. Further, he said that the team should have explained why they decided to “rest” Rohit – who he pointed out was a stalwart in Indian cricket.
“Very mysterious, why Ravi Shastri didn’t ask Jasprit Bumrah about Rohit Sharma at the toss,” Manjrekar commented.
