The IPL 2024 Auction is around the corner, and as many as 330 players will go under the hammer on Tuesday, which will decide their fate. Keeping the current auction aside, it is also time to revisit some of the most memorable moments from the event in the past. On Monday, Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams in the history of IPL, shared a list of players, who were were bought first, at every auction.

Guess, who was Mumbai’s first-ever pick in the 2008 auction? No, it wasn’t Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya, or even Shaun Pollock. It was Harbhajan Singh. The off-spinner was added to the team after Sachin Tendulkar was announced as the icon of Mumbai. While the following year, South African JP Duminy was Mumbai Indians’ first pick.

Come 2010, it was Keiron Pollard. And perhaps their biggest buy to date, Rohit Sharma was the first pick in 2011 auction. While it might not look important to pick a player first, but it goes a long way in instilling confidence in the player. Most of Mumbai’s first picks have gone on to become stalwarts too.

Coming to the current generation, Ishan Kishan was bagged first by Mumbai in 2022, followed by Cameron Green in 2023. Who would it be in 2024, remains a big question.
