Vishnu Vinod made his first appearance for the Mumbai Indians on Friday after being picked up for his base price of Rs 20 lakh. It was incidentally not his first gig in the IPL, having previously been on the books of RCB, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Vinod has even featured in the IPL before, all in the 2017 season. He made three appearances for RCB but failed to make a mark.
Known for his hard-hitting skills, Vinod has lit up the domestic circuit over the years. He went unsold for three years but was picked up by Delhi and Hyderabad in the last couple of seasons. He however had to wait his turn, which finally arrived on Friday while with the Mumbai Indians. The Kerala batsman did not leave it to chance, scoring a blazing 20-ball 30 in a fine partnership with Suryakumar.

Facing Purple Cap contender Mohammed Shami, Vishnu just swatted him over extra cover for a maximum with utter disdain. He also pulled Alazarri Joseph for a six over mid-wicket in a fine show of power hitting.
Vinod has had to battle with Sanju Samson for a spot in the Kerala side but has found his way on his batting alone. An opener by trade, Vinod has re-invented himself to be versatile and can bat anywhere across the middle order. In T20s, he has a strike rate of 138 with more than 1100 runs in 50 t20 matches. In 5 innings in last year’s SMAT20, Vinod scored 140 runs at a strike rate of 135 with a best score of 34. In the 2021/22 season, he had scored 145 runs in 4 innings with at a strike rate of 189.
