Who is Siddharth Desai? Gujarat’s spinner takes nine wickets on opening day of Ranji Trophy

Siddharth Desai is a new sensation for India, having taken nine wickets on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy match against Uttarakhand.

Gujarat spinner Siddharth Desai has made a name for himself in the Ranji Trophy, as the talented bowler took nine wickets on the opening day of the match. He achieved this remarkable milestone against Uttarakhand on January 23.

After dismissing opener Priyanshu Khanduri in the fifth over, Siddharth trapped Uttarakhand captain Ravikumar Samarth for a first-ball duck. He removed Yuvraj Choudhary off the final ball of the over, leaving Uttarakhand at 15/3, although he did not claim a hat-trick. It was a serious setback to see Samarth (514 runs) and Chaudhary (497 runs), Uttarakhand’s highest run scorers this season, return to the field.

Who is Siddharth Desai?

Siddharth Desai made his first-class debut for Gujarat in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy on October 14, 2017. He marked the occasion by taking his first five-wicket haul in the second innings and was named the man of the match.

In October 2018, Desai was the top wicket-taker in the 2018 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, claiming eighteen wickets in five matches. The following month, he was recognized as one of the eight players to watch in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy. In December 2018, he was included in India’s squad for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. During the group stage of the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, he was Gujarat’s leading wicket-taker, with 23 wickets in six matches. In November 2019, he was again named in India’s squad for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
