Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a genius, especially when it comes to conveying his decision to the public. From 2007 to 2025, the CSK stalwart has taken the world by surprise with his abrupt decisions both on and off field. One such move has been revealed by MSD’s former teammate from an episode during IPL 2024 and it involves Ravindra Jadeja.
How Dhoni fooled the crowd using Jadeja
Tushar Deshpande, who was a part of CSK in IPL 2024 before moving to RR in 2025, revealed how Dhoni had fooled the fans in 2024. The pacer claimed that he was told by the CSK stalwart to tell Jadeja that he would go out to bat ahead of the former skipper in the game against KKR. What happened next was the pacer going on to communicate the same to the all-rounder, only for Thala to enter from behind, leading to the crowd erupting.
“I remember when we were at CSK and playing against KKR at Chepauk, the crowd there was expecting that MS Dhoni would come out to bat, and I was just sitting in the dugout. But Mahi bhai asked me to tell Jadeja that he has to pretend to go out for batting. I went up to Jaddu bhai and told the same thing, and then Mahi bhai will come from behind. So I was there witnessing the whole scene. When Jadeja came out, the crowd went silent, and then suddenly Mahi bhai entered from behind, and the stadium erupted with excitement to see him come out to bat. So it was kind of funny and kind of goosebumps moment,” Deshpande said.
Having led CSK to five IPL trophies in the past, Dhoni was quite a letdown in the 2025 edition of the tournament. While he continues to be the heartbeat of the team, the former India captain simply has nothing to offer to the team apart from leadership skills. In IPL 2025, he managed to score just 196 runs in 14 matches, and was often criticised for demoting himself down the batting order, even when the team needed him the most.
