The ICC Board is set to bring the Champions Trophy issue to a conclusion. The ICC meeting is coming on December 5th, and it is certain that they will announce the direction for CT 2025 and how they are moving forward with it. It looks almost clear that Pakistan, which was set to host the full Champions Trophy in 2025, will now see a few matches going outside of Pakistan. This change has come due to India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan. Since this new development, things have shifted, and we may now see the 2025 Champions Trophy in a hybrid model for the first time. While this model has been used in the ODI World Cup, it has never been seen in the Champions Trophy. Also, the December 5th meeting will be the first one for Jay Shah as ICC Chief. The meeting will involve a total of 16 board members.
What is hybrid model in Champions Trophy
For cricket fans who may not be familiar with the hybrid model, it is a system in which matches are held at neutral venues if one country is unable or unwilling to host or travel to another due to security or diplomatic reasons. Best example of this was the 2023 Asia Cup, which was originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan. However, due to India’s reluctance to travel there, India’s matches were moved to Sri Lanka. This is the scenario that the BCCI is currently advocating for.
Champions Trophy Date
Although it is still not confirmed, the provisional starting date for the Champions Trophy is from February 19 to March 9, 2025.
