After two days of pure Indian dominance at Edgbaston, all eyes now turn to Day 3 as England look to dig themselves out of a massive hole. India, riding high on the back of Shubman Gill’s career-best 269, have posted a mammoth 587 in their first innings.
With the ball, the visitors wasted little time in making inroads, leaving England at 77 for 3 by stumps on Day 2.Joe Root and Harry Brook are currently at the crease, but with a mountain of 510 runs still to climb just to draw level, the hosts are under serious pressure.
Day 2 belonged entirely to India, particularly skipper fantastic. Gill’s majestic 269 off 387 balls, decorated with 28 fours and 5 sixes, broke multiple records and became the highest individual Test score by an Indian in SENA countries. Supported ably by Yashasvi Jaiswal (73) and Ravindra Jadeja (89), Gill guided India to their second-highest Test total in England.
