We are doomed to repeat mistakes: Usman Khawaja sparks controversy again after shoe row

Australian batter Usman Khawaja again spark controversy over the shoe row as he wrote a post on 'X' handle.

Australian batter Usman Khawaja again started the Pro-Palestine shoe controversy with his latest post on social media. The row started with the left-hand bat seen wearing shoes which has slogans of “Freedom is a human right” and “All lives are equal” during practice.

ICC has banned the political messaging by any players. But, Usman had released a video condemning the ban as his slogans were not ‘political’.

On his birthday Khawaja took his ‘X’ handle to thank the people who came in support of him after the controversy. He also took a jibe at ICC by saying “We are doomed to repeat the mistake in our past”.

Usman Khawaja had decided to fight with ICC to speak out freely on the human right issues. He had said “The ICC have told me that I can’t wear my shoes on field, because they believe it’s a political statement under their guidelines. I don’t believe it is.”

“I will respect their view and decision but I will fight it and seek to gain approval.”

Usman Khawaja black band in 1st Test

Khawaja stepped into the opening Test match against Pakistan wearing a black band on his hand. He scored 41 runs in first innings before getting dismissed by Shaheen Afridi. In the second innings, he smashed 90 runs to play a key role in Australia’s 360 runs win over Pakistan.
