Sanju Samson furthered his claim for a spot in the Asia Cup on Saturday. Keeping in the IND vs WI, the Rajasthan Royals gloveman grabbed a stunner early in the innings. With KL Rahul still to make a return, Samson’s performances could see him make a late dash to the squad.
Sanju Samson donned the keeping gloves with Ishan Kishan omitted from the side. The Kerala born wicketkeeper made an immediate impact, taking a leaping catch to dismiss Kyle Mayers.
Arshdeep Singh directed a rising short ball at Mayers who found the outside edge. It kept rising, needing Sanju to make an acrobatic leap to complete the take.
While the catch wasn’t out of the ordinary, Samson’s willingness to keep and do a good job is a bonus for him. KL Rahul is yet to get miles under his belt after surgery. Kishan meanwhile is considered as a opener. Samson thus naturally fits in as a middle order keeper bat.
