The Day 1 of the Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and South Australia saw a bizarre incident on the field. Victoria batter Peter Handscomb refused to leave the field despite edging to South Australia skipper Jake Lehman at third slip.
The incident happened in the 13th over of the Victoria’s innings. Pacer Brendan Doggett bowled a beautiful outswinging delivery to the wicketkeeper batter and managed to get an edge which went straight to Lehman who took a good low catch.
While the catch looked clean with naked eye, Handscomb was firm that the ball bounced before reaching it to Lehman’s hands and refused to leave.
The batter then was involved in a long chat with the umpire. But after confirming with the fielder, officials asked Handscomb to walk-off the field.
“I haven’t seen anything like this happen before in my life”, one of the commentator said on air.
Talking about the game, Sam Harper and Campbell Kellaway have managed to steady Victoria’s innings after losing 5/67. Wes Agar has been the pick of the bowlers so far for South Australia with 3 wickets.
