In what was their final league stage game of the season, CSK suffered defeat at the hands of KKR. After the game, the entire CSK squad and the staff took a lap of honour around the stadium thanking the fans for their support over the course of IPL 2023. CSK squad wore special t-shirts while hit tennis balls into the crowd for fans to catch.
Amid the festivities, MS Dhoni fan Sunil Gavaskar rushed out to reach MS Dhoni. Gavaskar, who was on commentary duty, requested Dhoni for an autograph in a heartwarming moment. The CSK moment sheepishly obliged, doing the same on the ex India captain’s shirt.

Gavaskar later revealed that he borrowed the pen having learnt of CSK’s lap of honour. Gavaskar, one of the greatest to have played the game, revealed his admiration for MS Dhoni and his leadership skills.
“Who doesn’t love him? What he has done for Indian cricket over the years has been amazing. What is most important is the role model that he has been. So many youngsters look up to him. “Thank you very much, I borrowed a pen. As soon as I heard they were going on a lap, I kept it with me,” Gavaskar said in the post-match show.
