Washington flops on return to GT’s XI, fails to replicate heroics from SRH game

Washington Sundar failed to fire on his return to GT's playing XI for the game against LSG

Washington Sundar’s return to action, with the bat, did not last for long against Lucknow Super Giants. After being benched for three games, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder replaced Kulwant Khejroliya in the side for the tie in Lucknow. However, he lasted only for 3 deliveries before he was sent packing by Ravi Bishnoi.

Sundar fails to fire against LSG

Sundar attempted to play a delivery off Bishnoi that was outside off. However, he managed to get a thick inside edge, resulting in the ball clipping the bails of the off stump. And with that, Washington’s knock 2 (3) came to an end even before it started.

The left-handed batter was sent ahead of Sherafane Rutherford with the hopes that he could replicate what he did against SRH. In that game, which also happened to be his maiden outing for GT, he played a sublime knock that helped Gill and co. cruise to victory. He put up a 90-run partnership with captain Gill before he was sent packing.

Prior to this game, there was a lot of buzz around Washington being benched. After all, he is an all-format player for India. Sundar moved from SRH to GT in the IPL 2025 mega auction after being released by the former. He didn’t play that well in 2023, because of the lack of opportunities.

What happened in LSG vs GT?

Sadly, he failed to deliver in the game against LSG. Rishabh Pant won the toss and put the visitors to bat first. Fifties from Sudharsan and Gill saw GT register the highest opening partnership so far in IPL 2025. Avesh Khan provided the first breakthrough by getting rid of Gill. Bishnoi then struck twice in an over to send Sudharsan and Sundar packing.
