The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has turned down the opportunity to cash in Rs 50 crore ahead of the World Cup 2023. Wankhede Stadium, one of the venues of the tournament, has already generated over Rs 100 crore in hospitality box sales. The MCA had another offer for Level 2 of the Vithal Divecha Pavilion, but eventually decided against it.

As per the Times of India, DreamSetGo and Cutting Edge had offered Rs 50 Crore for three hospitality boxes. The offer included a total of 529 seats in three boxes of 18 seats along with a foyer area. The arrangement was proposed for 10 years.

However, the Vithal Divecha Pavilion has traditionally hosted MCA members. Even though it is a great revenue generator for Mumbai Cricket, some members were concerned that, if hospitality boxes are sold, MCA members won’t get tickets for the World Cup.

The TOI report states as per a resolution passed in the 2013 AGM, members would get a minimum of 10 tickets during the IPL matches. These would include two of MCA Pavalion and two of the Vithal Divecha Stand Level 2.

“We didn’t invite the tender for this only. On Monday, a few members of the MCA’s Apex Council met president Amol Kale in this regard and it was unanimously decided that these particular seats will be kept for the members only,” a source told TOI.
