Virat Kohli joins Team India in Chennai after missing WC Warm-up clash

Virat Kohli flew to Mumbai from Guwahati to attend personal emergency after seeking BCCI's permission. But now, he will join the squad before the India vs Australia clash on Oct 8.

After missing the IND vs NED World Cup warm-up clash, Virat Kohli has joined India Cricket Team in Chennai. Kohli flew to Thiruvananthapuram from Mumbai and then completed his photoshoot before flying to Chennai with the team.

Fortunately, India vs Netherlands was a wash-out and Kohli did not miss anything much. India vs Australia will mark Rohit Sharma & Co’s opening of ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

“He will be joining us later in the evening and will be travelling with the team to Chennai tomorrow,” an India Cricket Team spokesperson told Cricbuzz.

Virat Kohli flew from Guwahati to Mumbai after the India vs England match was washed out. He sought permission from the BCCI to attend to a personal emergency.

While he was supposed to rejoin the team before the Netherlands World Cup warm-up game, he did not. Instead, he will only arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday night. After attending ICC’s photoshoot, he will travel to Chennai with the team on Wednesday.

Since the Rajkot ODI against Australia, Virat Kohli hasn’t had a practice session with India Cricket Team

No practice for Virat Kohli

However, with personal emergency and no net sessions in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, Virat Kohli remains without any practice.

With a break on Wednesday due to travelling, Virat Kohli will only have his first practice session before the World Cup on Thursday at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

However, his form is not of any concern. In 2023, Virat Kohli has scored three centuries including one against Pakistan in Asia Cup. Against Australia, Kohli smashed 56 in the 3rd ODI. Overall, this year, he has been in great form in ODIs, averaging 55.63.

With World Cup 2023 likely to be his last World Cup, especially in India, he would want to finish things off in style, clinching the World Cup title.

To note, Virat Kohli was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team.
