Cricket star Virat Kohli recently expressed his displeasure with broadcasters for talking about his favourite food instead of focusing on the game. Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit ahead of IPL 2025, Kohli stressed that broadcasters should stick to discussing cricket rather than what he ate last night. Many times it has been seen that broadcasters put players in a weird situation, asking them personal questions instead of talking about the game.
Criticism of Broadcasters
Recently, during the Ranji Trophy 2025, Kohli’s lunch choice of chilli paneer went viral. Addressing this trend, Kohli asked broadcasters to stop focusing on his food preferences during matches. He pointed out an instance from 2023’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy where too much attention was given to his food.
“We are working towards India becoming a sports-forward nation. We have the vision. We have the groundwork happening today. It should be a collective responsibility of everyone involved. It’s not just about the infrastructure or the people who infuse the money. It’s also about the people who watch. We need education,” Virat Kohli said at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit.
“A broadcast show needs to talk about the game and not what I ate yesterday for lunch or my favourite chhole-bhature place in Delhi. You can’t have that in cricket matches. Rather, you could talk about what an athlete is going through,” he added.
Legendary career and discipline
From his early days in the U19 team, Virat Kohli has been in the spotlight. Known for his incredible skill, he has risen to become one of the top batters of his generation. Adding to his cricketing success, Kohli is also famous for his disciplined lifestyle and healthy eating habits. Whenever he plays in Delhi, broadcasters often show his preferred eateries, turning them into popular spots.

Looking ahead to IPL
After a brief break following his team’s Champions Trophy win, Kohli is set to return to the Indian Premier League. He is expected to open the innings with Phil Salt, and fans are eager to see him back in action. Kohli’s message is clear: while he cherishes his love for Delhi’s food, the emphasis should always be on cricket during matches.
