Virat Kohli, Shami & Gill in three-way fight for ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023

Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Mohammed Shami are three Indian players out of four who have been named for ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced nominees for the ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023 on Thursday. Three Indian players, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Mohammed Shami will be competing for the same award. New Zealand’s all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has also made it to the nominees list.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was the leading run scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023. King Kohli dominated the 50-over format. He won ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for World Cup, broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar of most ODI centuries. He has scored 1377 runs this year at an average of 72.47.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill emerged as a coming-up star for India as he has scored 1584 runs at an average of 63.36 this year. He hit the most runs for India in 2023 ahead of ODI ‘Goat’ Virat Kohli.

Mohammed Shami

In the seven matches, Mohammed Shami claimed three five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul. With 18 games played, the pacer took 55 wickets to become the highest wicket taker in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Daryl Mitchell

With a stunning 1204 runs at the end of the 2023 ODI season. He became player with third-highest runs scored by a New Zealand player in a calendar year.
