Kohli has no plans to retire from ODIs, sets 2027 World Cup target after Champions Trophy win

Virat Kohli wants to win the 2027 ODI World Cup after Champions Trophy and has no plans of retiring

India cricket team star Virat Kohli has set his sights firmly on his next goal – the 2027 ODI World Cup. After being a part of the heartbreaking loss in the 2023 final, the batting maestro has no plans to retire from the 50-over format. In fact, he is planning to add one more trophy to his cabinet after the Champions Trophy win.

Champions Trophy done, 2027 World Cup on Kohli’s mind next

In an interaction, Kohli was asked what was his next big step following the Champions Trophy victory. The former Indian captain replied that it could be the next World Cup.

The next big step? I don’t know. Maybe, try to win the next World Cup,” Kohli said.

Kohli had earlier announced his retirement from T20Is following India’s World Cup win in 2024. This leaves him with one elusive milestone to achieve – another ODI World Cup title. Virat was a part of the MS Dhoni-led Indian team that lifted the trophy in 2011. Since then, he faced heartbreaks in 2015, 2019 and 2023 consecutively.

While there was a lot of speculations on his ODI retirement earlier this year, he put them to rest by winning the Champions Trophy. He is now targeting the next big thing in 2027 and has no plans of taking retirement from the 50-over format any time soon.
