Coming to the match, India put on another dominant performance, crushing Sri Lanka by a massive 302-run margin at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. With this win, India secured their spot in the semifinals, making it their seventh consecutive victory in the tournament.

India were asked to bat first. They managed to reach an imposing total of 357/8, riding on half-centuries from Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer. After losing Rohit Sharma early in the match to Dilshan Madushanka, who eventually took a five-wicket haul, Kohli and Gill built a formidable partnership of 189 runs.

Madushanka ended their partnership and prevented both of them from reaching a century. Sri Lanka fought back by taking the wickets of KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav. However, Iyer showcased brilliant form, scoring a quick 82 off 56 balls to ensure India crossed the 300-run mark. Moreover, a couple of powerful hits from Ravindra Jadeja in the final overs pushed India’s total beyond 350.

In their response, Jasprit Bumrah provided India with a perfect start, taking a wicket on the very first ball. Mohammed Siraj joined the party by grabbing two quick wickets in the same over, leaving Sri Lanka struggling at 3-4. Mohammed Shami, who has been in excellent form, completed a five-wicket haul as the Sri Lankan innings came to an end in just 19.4 overs.
