The campaign that started with “King Kohli” culminated with a horror show for Virat Kohli. He became the first Indian captain to make India win a Test series in Australia in 2018/19. But the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024/25 proved to be a series to forget for the supertsar. He made just 190 runs and averaged a mere 23.75. His outside off-stump issue was so clear that even Scott Boland revealed how the Aussie bowlers would line Kohli up in the BGT.
Scott Boland dominated Virat Kohli at BGT
Boland might be unknown to some Indian fans but now, after the BGT, no one would forget him. After all, Boland took 21 wickets at 13.19, an average only bettered by Jasprit Bumrah. Four of Boland’s dismissals were Virat Kohli, who just couldn’t play the waiting game and nicked off every time. Kohli just couldn’t resist poking at outside off-stump balls despite his poor record against that type of delivery. On the backdrop of this, a former Australian player has subtly trolled Kohli of being Boland’s bunny.
“Kohli started with a century in Perth, making the most of the benign conditions after Yashasvi Jaiswal had worn out the new ball and the Aussie bowlers. But from then on he floundered. The century aside, he made only 90 runs and had become Scott Boland’s “bunny”, unable to restrict himself from playing outside off stump by the end of the series,” Kerry O’Keeffe said to FoxSports
Barring Pat Cummins, the other three Australian quicks have gotten the scalp of the former Indian captain. Josh Hazlewood got him in Perth and Brisbane, Mitchell Starc in Adelaide and Melbourne, while Scott Boland has gotten Kohli’s scalp once in all the three matches he’s played.
