Virat Kohli continues to break records. The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain has become the first-ever batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history to score 1,000 boundaries. Kohli did so against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 24th match of the IPL 2025 season at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The top five consists of two retired players, Shikhar Dhawan and Chris Gayle. The other two, David Warner and Rohit Sharma are active, but the former wasn’t picked by any team for the IPL 2025, and given his age, he may not be picked going forward either.
Most boundaries in the IPL
1001* – Virat Kohli
920 – Shikhar Dhawan
899 – David Warner
885 – Rohit Sharma
761 – Chris Gayle
Kohli was at 998 boundaries before the DC match, and although he didn’t score that many, three boundaries were enough to put his name in IPL history. Weirdly enough, Kohli doesn’t have the record for fours or sixes. Dhawan has been beaten in fours, 768 to 721. When it comes to sixes, Gayle and Rohit have hit the ball over the boundary 357 and 282 times, while Kohli’s at 280.
