The stand-in captain attributed his improved batting performance, specifically his brilliant 70* off 52 balls on Tuesday, to the positive influence of Virat Kohli.

“I had a very wonderful chat with Virat a couple of days back, and the kind of input he gave me, he has seen me throughout the years. It’s been almost seven or eight years of international cricket and he has seen me from day one. He had some pointers which really helped me. He just wanted me to spend some time on the crease and get used to the 50 or game as well because we have played so many T20 formats and yeah, that kind of stayed in my mind and I was just waiting for the opportunity. I’m really thankful to him as well to kind of share that experience with me,” Hardik said about Virat Kohli and his batting.

The India vs West Indies ODI series provided a thrilling display of cricket, marked by India’s undeniable dominance and some exceptional performances from emerging players vying for a spot in the Indian ODI squad. The series commenced with India securing a convincing 5-wicket victory in the first match. Led by their captain Rohit Sharma, the Indian team exhibited a commanding performance, both in bowling and batting. Restricting the hosts to a mere 114 runs, India chased down the target with ease, thanks to a stellar half-century by the promising Ishan Kishan.

However, the second match witnessed an unexpected turn of events, as the West Indies, under the leadership of Shai Hope, managed to secure their first victory against India since December 2019. Demonstrating excellent teamwork, the West Indies bowlers, Gudakesh Motie, and Romario Shepherd, both claimed three wickets each, restricting India to a modest score of 181. In response, the West Indies batters, led by an unbeaten 63 from Shai Hope and a crucial 48 not out from Keacy Carty, successfully chased down the target with six wickets in hand, leveling the series at 1-1.

The series’ fate was determined in the thrilling final match at the iconic Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. Winning the toss, West Indies captain Shai Hope chose to bowl first, hoping to capitalize on the home advantage. However, India had other plans. With an outstanding batting display, India posted an imposing total of 351/5 on the scoreboard, setting a daunting target for the West Indies.
