Vidarbha were nowhere near their best in the first innings but brought their A-game on Day 3 of the match. Vidarbha started the day on backfoot with 13/1 as MP led by 69 runs. However, the Vidarbha batters contributed unanimously to help the team gain an upper hand by the time the play ended on Day 3. Opener Dhruv Shorey chipped in with 40 runs before number 4 batter Aman Mokhade scored 59 runs. Karun Nair had a good start too, but departed at 38 runs.
Vidarbha needed a big score and lengthy partnership to put MP in the back foot and it arrived in the form of Yash Rathod and Akshay Wadkar. The duo stitched up a partnership of 158 runs to put Vidarbha firmly in the driver’s seat. While Wadkar departed on 77 runs at the fag end of day’s play, Rathod remained not out on 97 runs at the end of day’s play.
