Fans’ and pundits’ cries are finally heard by the Indian cricket management. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the anomaly, the sensation that has taken the world by storm, is finally set to wear the India badge. After making every world-class bowler look like club bowlers at the IPL 2026, the 15-year-old enigma has finally arrived on the international stage. With this, he has finally broken the epoch-making Sachin Tendulkar record to become the youngest Indian debutant ever.

Right after Sooryavanshi was named in India’s squad for the T20I tour of Ireland and England, fans were behind him being part of the XI. However, the Gautam Gambhir-led management was adamant about sticking with the group that won them the T20 World Cup 2026.
Rightfully so, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson were supposed to start against Ireland, and the team stuck with them but now after the wait of three games, Sooryavanshi finally received his maiden T20I cap from Tilak Varma in Manchester. He replaced Samson, who got under the pump after a string of low scores.

|---|---|
| Vaibhav Sooryavanshi | 15 years, 99 days |

Meanwhile. Sooryavanshi has also become the youngest Indian debutant (men or women), beating Shafali Verma’s record. Shafali was 15 years and 239 days old when she made her debut against South Africa in 2019. Overall, Sooryavanshi is the second-youngest debutant (among full-member nations). Hasan Raza of Pakistan keeps his record intact, as he made his debut at the age of 14 years and 227 days back in October 1996.
No one deserves more than Sooryavanshi
Although you would feel bad for Samson, you can’t take anything away from Sooryavanshi. He has literally forced everyone to acknowledge his once-in-a-generation talent. The last one we saw like him was Tendulkar, who went on to become the greatest cricket player of all time. There’s a huge road ahead of Sooryavanshi but the early signs have been quite astonishing.
Sooryavanshi’s India call-up wasn’t on the back of just one IPL season. It came because the teenager has made every level look too easy. The first glimpse arrived in IPL 2025, when he struck a 35-ball century. He followed that with the Under-19 World Cup, where he scored 439 runs, including 175 in the final, and was named Player of the Tournament. By IPL 2026, he had moved beyond reality. While most youngsters were trying to survive against international bowlers, Sooryavanshi was dismantling them.
Whether it was Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins or even Kagiso Rabada – Sooryavanshi took a toll on all world-class bowlers. His numbers still look ridiculous. 776 runs and easily won the Orange Cap. MVP award. 72 sixes. His now-India coach, Gambhir hit 59 in his entire 11-year career.
And just when people thought the hype might cool down after the IPL, he produced another absurd innings. In the India A tri-series final against Sri Lanka A, Sooryavanshi blasted a 17-ball fifty, the fastest ever recorded in List-A cricket. He eventually smashed 94 off only 29 deliveries and was in touching distance of hammering the quickest List-A ton too.
