Vaibhav Sooryavanshi displayed his versatility in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Although he did end up scoring at a strike rate of 237.30, the 15-year-old paced himself in several innings. In several innings, he gave respect to the bowlers in the first couple of overs and then went boom. His mature knock in the Qualifier 2 against the Gujarat Titans (GT) was a prime example of that.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to switch ODI mode on
Sooryavanshi showed he can shift gears. He can drop down and quickly switch up. His blockbuster batting saw him earn the Orange Cap, hit the most sixes, end with the highest strike rate, and claim the Emerging and MVP awards. However, he won’t be the same batter in the matter of 2 weeks.
He broke Chris Gayle’s record of sixes in an IPL season, 72 to 59. But with his next challenge being a 50-over tri-series for India A against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, Sooryavanshi has assured everyone you’ll see a different side of his game in Dambulla.
“Neeche khelna padega because next tour ODI ka hai na. Red balls se bohot practice kiya hai; kisi ne dekha nahi. Aab mein ground shots zyada kheloonga, aap dekhna. (I’ll have to play more along the ground because our next tour is an ODI series. I’ve practised a lot with the red ball, though nobody has seen it yet. Now, I’ll play more shots along the ground),” Sooryavanshi told Star Sports.
For the unversed, the 15-year-old has an exceptional 50-over game. His most recent exploit was the Under-19 ODI World Cup 2026, where he was the second-highest scorer and smashed 175 in the final. Sooryavanshi has also played for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and even showed his prowess against professionals.

Earlier, Sooryavanshi was going to play under Tilak Varma and Riyan Parag, his captain at the Rajasthan Royals, but the latter has been ruled out with injury. However, he’ll still be around another Royals teammate in Yudhvir Singh.
