For someone who is just 15, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi doesn’t speak like a player trying to find his feet. He speaks like someone who already believes he belongs at the highest level. That confidence hasn’t come out of nowhere.
It’s been built over the last months. He has dominated everywhere he has played. Sooryavanshi mauled the Under-19 bowlers when he was 14, smashing centuries in every part of the world. He stunned each and every one in the cricketing world when he smashed Shardul Thakur for a whopping six off the very first delivery he faced in the IPL. Later, he became the fastest Indian (in 35 balls) to hammer an IPL century.
Now, he has turned IPL 2026 into his highlight reel. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener, who hasn’t let the fans miss Sanju Samson, has clubbered 246 runs in six innings, with his strike rate touching the 250-mark. Bowlers haven’t really found a way to slow him down once he gets going. Naturally, talk around an India debut has followed. What’s interesting is that Sooryavanshi isn’t brushing that aside.
Confident Sooryavanshi up for it

When Sooryavanshi talks about his batting, there’s no mention of playing safe or easing into an innings. It’s all about impact. “Main jitni der bhi ground pe hoon, utni der mein dominate karke agar khelu, toh match unke haath se chheen sakta hoon (For whatever duration I am on the ground, as long as I am using my skills, dominate and play, I can snatch the match from opponents’ hands),” he said while speaking to Doordarshan. It speaks volume about the mindset of Sooryavanshi. He may be 15 on paper but his mindset of battling everything that’s up against him is something to admire. He is fearless, something that we see on the ground as well.
His numbers show exactly the same. His both half-centuries came in just 15 balls each. A 26-ball 78 in a 200-plus chase where he didn’t just keep up with the asking rate, he made it irrelevant. Even against bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood, there has been no visible change in approach. If anything, the better the bowler, the clearer his intent seems to get.

India debut on the horizon, but eyes fixed further ahead
The BCCI is looking to fast-track Sooryavanshi into the setup right after the IPL 2026. If all goes well, he might be on the trip to Ireland, against whom India are slated to play a two-match T20I series. The T20 World Cup 2026 champions are slated to play at least 20 more T20Is this year. Hence, against Ireland, the BCCI might test out new names on the international circuit and Sooryavanshi’s chance lies there.
However, for the Bihar-born boy, his focus transcends just the international debut. He, in fact, eyes, to play the World Cup for the senior team. While Sooryavanshi has already won the Under-19 World Cup for India, his biggest dream is to achieve the pinnacle of the sport.
“I also spoke to my father. He said I have fulfilled half of his dream, but half is still left. I need to play in the World Cup for the senior Indian team,” he said. Then came the line that probably sums up where he is mentally: “Abhi mera poora focus isi par hai ki senior India ke liye jitna ho sake utna contribute karoon.”
India don’t usually rush players at this age, and there’s always that temptation to wait, to let things settle. But Sooryavanshi isn’t really giving them that luxury. His performances have been unreal. Unreal in general, and not just when looked from a 15-year-old’s perspective.
