Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's high intent batting can go either way in any game.

Ever since Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been called up in India’s senior T20 international side, the teenage sensation has struggled to score big. Representing India ‘A’ after a sizzling IPL 2026, the southpaw has been aggressive but is yet to muster runs like we saw him do just a few of weeks ago.

The platform was set for Sooryavanshi to go big today when India ‘A’ faced Sri Lanka ‘A’ for the second time in the ongoing 50-over tri-series. He started well, smashing anything full or short. Sooryavanshi, after India A were put to bat first, gave a little area to err to Sri Lankan bowlers as he smashed 20 runs in first 11 balls. As if it is again a T20 match happening.

Sooryavanshi fails for India A

Sahan Arachchige need the feel to bring in himself, an off-spinner after India A made 23 runs in the first three overs. Sooryavanshi welcomed him with a boundary through square. However, on the fourth ball, Sooryavanshi perished.

The SL A captain dropped it full and gave the ball some air. The Dambulla pitch turned for the first time and the universe baby boss got beaten by the turn. He went for a hoick but skied it. Wanuja Sahan took a safe catch at point, and Sooryavanshi was dismissed after a quick 14-ball 21.

In three outings in the tri-series, the 15-year-old has scored 14,44 and 21. In total, he has 79 runs at an average of 26.33. His strike rate of 166, however, is again superb.

Sooryavanshi to make India debut soon?

Following his incredible IPL 2026 campaign, the Indian selectors rewarded him with a spot in the Indian T20I side. There’s a 15-year-old kid who’s been tearing up bowling attacks like he’s been doing it for years, and now he’s right on the edge of pulling on India colours for the first time.

The selectors didn’t wait around as they’ve picked him for the T20I squad to tour England and Ireland because T20 cricket is exactly his world. He doesn’t grind out runs or wait for the loose ball. He walks in and takes the game on, fearless swing, quick hands, big hits. And the IPL 2026 season made it impossible to ignore him. He walked away with the Orange Cap after smashing 776 runs, and did it at a strike rate of 237.30. Apart from that, he was also the Player of the Tournament and had the most sixes. He did all this while facing some of the best bowlers of the current generation.

Even though Sooryavanshi’s performances speak for themselves, there would be a few critics who would want him to wait for longer to attain an Indian team berth. But fortunately, chief selector Ajit Agarkar does not feature on that list. While announcing the squad for IRE and ENG, he clarified the rationale behind the selection.

“Vaibhav’s performances almost forced us to pick him. I know he’s young, but two IPL seasons in a row and what he has done at the Under-19 level speak for themselves. We can all see the kind of talent he possesses,” Agarkar had said at the PC. “There will be tougher challenges but he has shown great promise and temperament. We’re all as hopeful as everyone is. He has picked himself through his own performances,” he added.

Born on March 27, 2011, Sooryavanshi will beat Sachin Tendulkar’s youngest debutant record as long as he makes his India debut by October 18, 2027. So, that’s unquestionable.
